Spits Simplifying Their Game

The Windsor Spitfires are looking for this season’s first win as they host the Barrie Colts tonight.

Head Coach Bob Boughner says his team is struggling to score goals with just three through their first two games.

He expects a more simplified approach from his players tonight. “Instead of looking to pass the puck, it’s to get more pucks to the net and get guys crashing the net — trying to get those second and third opportunities. Right now, if you want a baseball analogy, it’s like we’re trying to hit a homerun every time we have the puck.”

Boughner says the team’s waiting for four of its veteran players to return from NHL camps and suspensions. Many OHL teams are dealing with the same problem right now, but the coach thinks it’s having a greater effect on his team because of how young they are.
