A portion of Hwy. 3 could be closed for a good part of 2015 while it is being reconstructed.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has started the detailed design for reconstructing the entire road bed from County Rd. 34 to Belle River Rd. in Kingsville.

Ministry spokesperson Liane Fisher says they’re still trying to determine if a detour will be necessary and where it will go if it is. “It’s in the preliminary design stage right now. We just published the notice of study commencement and we expect to hold a public information centre sometime this fall to share those plans with the public.”

The road will still be two lanes when finished, but could become the westbound lanes if the road is widened in the future. No major upgrades will be made at any of the intersections as part of this project. The ministry won’t release a cost estimate until after bids for the project are opened.
