Competitive Green Technologies, a company out of Leamington, is receiving a $3-million grant from the federal government.

The grant will be used to conduct a pilot project to turn non-food crops like switchgrass into industrial products like bioplastics.

The purpose of the testing is to commercialize new bioplastics in hopes of helping farmers turn agricultural waste into a new revenue stream.

The research will be completed in collaboration with the University of Guelph’s Bioproducts Discovery and Development Centre.
