Although Ontario’s education accountability office is expressing concerns about low test scores in high school applied math courses, numbers at the Lambton-Kent District School Board are on the rise.

A recent report from EQAO calls for a review of math and English following “persistently low” test scores.

Education Director Jim Costello says although the numbers are embargoed until September, he’s encouraged by the work being done by staff and a recent upward trend in grade nine math scores.

Costello admits scores on the Grade 10 literacy test are always a concern, but he says they have ongoing literacy initiatives and projects across the system to help improve results.
