Chatham-Kent police say spot checks through the weekend were encouraging, especially in light of the crash that killed two boaters in the lower St. Clair River.
Constable Renee Cowell says police were on the water as well as the highways.
“Out of the 75 boats we checked no one was found to be operating their vessel while impaired,” she says. “We also increased our enforcement on land yesterday, during a RIDE spot check on Charing Cross Rd officers stopped 130 vehicles with not one motorist found to be drinking and driving.
Cowell says one boater was charged with having open liquor. On the weekend a boat crash in American waters killed a woman from Winnipeg and a Michigan man.
