A new magnolia tree is growing in Tecumseh Park in Chatham in honour of the late federal NDP leader Jack Layton.

The Chatham-Kent-Essex riding association dedicated the tree with the help of Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath.

Member Dan Gelinas says they wanted to dedicate a tree to show the strong NDP roots in the Chatham community. “I met with our executive and I said, ‘why don’t we put this together with Andrea coming down it would be a great way for her and our supporters to recognize that Jack is not forgotten?'”

Horwath made the visit to the region to enforce her message that southwestern Ontario will not be forgotten by the NDP.
