Tigers Pick Up Lefty Price

The Detroit Tigers have acquired left-handed pitcher David Price in a three-way trade with the Tampa Bay Rays and the Seattle Mariners.

In return for Price, the Rays will get lefthanded pitcher Drew Smyly from Detroit and infielder Nick Franklin from Seattle. Detroit sent outfielder Austin Jackson to the Mariners.

Price joins a starting rotation that already includes Max Scherzer, Anibal Sanchez and Justin Verlander. The 2012 American League Cy Young Award winner leads the A-L this season with 189 strikeouts and 170.2 innings pitched. Over seven seasons with the Rays, he’s compiled an 82-47 record, 3.18 ERA and 1065 strikeouts.

Over five seasons with Detroit, Jackson has hit .277 with 447 runs scored, 140 doubles, 43 triples, 233 RBI over 669 games. He’s had four home runs for the Tigers in 2014.
