A local auto recycler is turning old tires into dreams for the Sunshine Foundation.

Over the course of one week in May, A&L Auto Recyclers out of Comber collected over 3,000 tires equalling $27,376 to help the Sunshine Foundation fulfill the dreams of children with disabilities.

Owner Jeff Lanoue says they are proud to be the top earner of all the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association locations. “We’re definitely going to participate every year. Hopefully, you never know, maybe we’ll win again next year. But we’re going to give it an effort for sure. It’s the kids that win in the long run. It’s just an honour to be able to help out the Sunshine Foundation.”

As the top earner, the Ontario Tire Stewardship program made a $15,000 on behalf of A&L to the Town of Lakeshore Community Project fund that will go toward purchasing products made from recycled tires for the new arena.
