Erieau’s Hartley Vidler Passes Away
The village of Erieau is mourning a man who was a driving force for eight decades.
Hartley Vidler was a fisherman and opened a packing plant, the marina and was president of the Erieau Land company.
“I call him a hero, a real strong entrepreneur, I think he’s been involved in everything that ever happened in Erieau,” says South Chatham-Kent Councillor Frank Vercouteren. “He always had time to talk, time to discuss Erieau, he certainly had full knowledge of everything going on in Erieau.”
Vidler started the community search and rescue unit, was a firefighter, led the sea scouts, and was on the village council and the school board. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the McKinlay Funeral Home in Blenheim.
