A Chatham couple is facing public mischief charges after faking an assault complaint.

Police say the couple provided a false report to police on July 26. Officers were called to a Taylor Ave. apartment where a man told police he had been pushed by his neighbours and sustained a hip injury. His wife backed up the story, saying she witnessed the assault.

However, when questioned, neighbours denied the assault ever happened. Video surveillance confirmed that the confrontation did not occur as the couple had previously told police.

A man and woman, both 58, were arrested yesterday at their home. They have been charged and released with conditions pending a future court date.
