Algae On Ministry Radar
The Ministry of the Environment is keeping an eye out for blue green algae in Lake Erie, but has yet to see signs of the toxic cynobacteria.
Spokesperson Kate Jordan says the government body keeps an eye on what agencies on the american side of the border are tracking.
“We do monitor their bulletins and we use that information,” notes Jordan. “Both in terms of our sampling information and feeding that information to the health units so we can track that bloom as it crosses over into Canadian waters.”
Ohio issued its first algae warning of the season last Thursday. Jordan says that bloom hasn’t moved to this side of the border yet.
