The Dresden Agricultural Society says the crowds and morale at the Dresden Raceway prove harness racing is here to stay.

The Dresden Raceway has been granted 11 dates this year, with racing starting on July 1 and running through September 1.

“There is a want and a need out there, so we need to support that. There are great horsemen out there, there’s some wonderful horses that are just waiting to run and they need a place to do that,” says President of the Dresden Agricultural Society Lucille Laprise, who says the organization is in it for the long haul. “We’re sprucing things up, we’re doing some painting here, fixing up there and doing all kinds of great things to bring the place back up to where it used to be. Hopefully we’ll do a really good job and have great support and get maybe a few more races next year. I think everyone has been pleased with the turnout we’re having.”

The agricultural society took over the raceway from Windsor Raceway’s parent company Winrac Development Inc. for the 2014 season.
