A complete revitalization of downtown Chatham is in the beginning stages.

The municipality is looking at an overhaul of the streets, sidewalks and green spaces in the downtown core.

Planner Ryan Jacques says it’s overdue. “I believe the last complete reconstruction of the downtown was in the late 70s,” reveals Jacques. “Although parts of King St. and adjoining streets have been done over the years, but not as an entire unit.”

The project won’t go to the design stage until sometime next year and that depends upon prioritizing of the project.

Funding for the multi-year project will need to come from capital budgets.
