Contract talks between the University of Windsor and the Windsor University Faculty Association will continue with the help of a mediator through the weekend, but members are more uncertain than ever.

Union president Professor Brian E. Brown says the association requested a discussion on a lockout protocol. He says the university’s negotiating team refused.

He says it puts some of his 850 members in a difficult situation. “Our professors have projects which need to be wound down. Some will take five or six days to slowly shut them off,” he says. “And we have many faculty who are working with animals who need to know exactly what’s going on, and make arrangements for animal care.”

Despite a progression in bargaining, the university requested, and received a no-board report putting it in a legal lockout position as of July 3. The current contract runs out June 30.
