Catholic School Board Approves Budget
The St. Clair Catholic District School Board is set to operate with a surplus next year, after the budget was approved by the board of trustees. After meeting Ministry of Education compliance regulations, the operative surplus sits at over $705,000.
Associate Director Jim McKenzie says with enrollment across the board stabilizing, the board has not seen a reduction in its grants.
“In the past five years, we would have had years where we would have lost 200 or 300 students, almost an entire elementary school,” McKenzie says. “Because of that, you would see a significant drop in your revenues because it is all enrollment driven.”
McKenzie says the budget document needs to be submitted to the ministry by June 28.
