Unifor Backs Windsor Area Incumbents

All three incumbents in Windsor-Essex in the upcoming provincial election are getting the backing of Unifor.

Local 444 President Dino Chiodo says the decision came after a recent union executive committee meeting.

“We’ve had a lot of debate with regards to party politics and issue-based campaigning and from that perspective, you know, we hunkered down and really came up with a few names that we thought represent Windsor, Ontario and Essex County very well,” says Chiodo.

NDP representatives in Essex and Windsor-Tecumseh Taras Natyshak and Percy Hatfield, and Windsor-West Liberal rep Teresa Piruzza all received the nod from Unifor, which represents about 10,000 active and 6,000 retired members.

Chiodo says they will send a newsletter outlining their decision along with a fact sheet on the candidates to their membership and reiterated that ultimately its up to each individual to decide who to vote for.
