Thamesville Wastewater Plant Closing

The Thamesville wastewater plant will close September 2015.

The plan is to pump the waste to Ridgetown for processing.

Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission General Manager Tom Kissner says it’s the most cost-effective solution. “We did look at upgrades to that plant because they are due,” says Kissner. “But when we looked at the cost benefit of decomissioning that plant and having it treated somewhere else, it outweighed spending the money to upgrade.”

An existing pump station will need to be retrofitted at a cost of $2.7-million. Following the decomission, one option is to level the Thamesville plant and sell the property.
