Negotiations are underway between Highbury Canco and UFCW officials for a collective agreement covering the remaining workers at the Leamington Heinz plant.

Job postings will soon be going up now that the new company has signed all of the paper work to take over the 105-year-old plant June 27.

Highbury Director Pradeep Sood expects most of the 250 new hires will be current Heinz employees. “We need people who are trained on the job already and have some experience. I would expect more of them if not all will be from existing employees.”

Currently 800 people are employed by Heinz in Leamington, the majority of those will lose their job when the company ceases operations June 27. Sood doesn’t expect production to miss a beat, despite the change over.
