With drier weather in the forecast for the long weekend, OPP are asking you to make sure you’re enjoying it safely.

Acting Sergeant Chrystal Jones is reminding you to put on a helmet and abstain from drinking alcohol if you plan to go out on an off-road vehicle.

“In 2013, we had 20 people die in off-road vehicle collisions in 13 of those people weren’t wearing helmets and in 9 of those, people were drinking alcohol,” says Jones. “If you’re planning to get on your off-road vehicle, please put on your helmet. It could mean the difference between life and death.”

Jones is also reminding you to keep an eye out for motorcyclists who may be out on the roads. She says 28 motorcyclists died in OPP jurisdiction in 2013, compared to 26 in 2012 and 21 in 2011.
