According to newly released statistics, there are about 350 registered sexual offenders living across Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent as of 2008.

The data from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services was released because of a Supreme Court of Canada ruling in favour of an access-to-information request from Global News. The ministry was told to disclose a 14-page document with the information on the number of registered sex offenders living in different postal code areas in Ontario.

Across the 20 postal codes in Windsor-Essex there are a little more than 200 registered sex offenders while just over 130 live across the four postal codes covering Chatham-Kent.

The Supreme Court ruling upholds a 2009 order from Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner approving the request from Global.
