West Nile Season Approches

With the warmer weather finally upon us, the chance of getting West Nile Virus is going up.

Public Health Inspector Cara Robinson recommends wearing light coloured clothing, long sleeve shirts, long pants, and socks when outside.

“The symptoms can be just be general flu-like symptoms,” says Robinson. “A lot of people who actually do get infected with West Nile Virus show no symptoms at all, or very mild symptoms. Less commonly it can progress to some severe neurological symptoms, and that’s what we want to avoid.”

Robinson also recommends removing standing water, and using insect repellent that contains DEET.
