Dog Killer Getting Prison Time

A Belle River man is going to jail after killing and causing unnecessary pain to a dog.

The Humane Society pressed charges against John Mackenzie last month after a german shepard was found dead at his home. Veterinarians found evidence of strangulation to the dog, along with indications its mouth had been taped shut.

The official cause of death was asphyxiation.

Mackenzie will spend the next four months in prison, two years on probation and it’ll be ten years before he’s allowed to own an animal. He was sentenced in a Windsor courtroom on Wednesday.
