St. Clair Construction Under Budget
Municipal officials say construction on St. Clair St. will be done on time and come in under budget.
The project was put on hold last November and started up again last week. The centre lanes of St. Clair St. are closed between Thames St. and McNaughton Ave. It is anticipated construction will be done by the end of June. Manager of Infrastructure and Development Engineering Nelson Cavacas says there are several reasons they did not combine the resurfacing work with the sewer repairs six years ago.
“That was deep underground sewer construction and we like to always leave it for a year in the event that there is some settlement. We had been actively persuing the ministry for the road funding on the heels of that PUC sewer work,” says Cavacas. “That was not to address the road, it was basically to make improvements to the underground infrastructure.”
The municipality has been granted $2-million from the province to complete the resurfacing of St. Clair St. The total budget for the project is $2.9-million, but Cavacas anticipates final costs will be lower.
