Grade 10 students from across Chatham-Kent will spend the next year developing their leadership skills before heading to Guatemala.

“On Tuesday nights they spend three hours exploring leadership from a delivery standpoint and also supporting various community initiatives across Chatham-Kent,” says YMCA of Southwestern Ontario CEO Jim Janzen. “They go to Guatemala in March where they’ll help build an addition to a school and do some adventure travel.”

Janzen says this is the first year for the program in Chatham-Kent. He notes there were a lot of interested applicants but only 22 were chosen for Project Guatemala.
