The service for the late Right Honourable Herb Gray will be held this morning at 11am at Congregation Machziekei Hadas in Ottawa.

Many in the region believe the longtime Windsor Liberal MP and deputy prime minster should have been given the honour of a state funeral.

Conservative MP Jeff Watson says it’s unfortunate his death and funeral were politicized. “Of the nine Canadians who have received a Right Honourable designation not by virtue of a position they held but just having it bestowed on them, there have been no state funerals for them. Including a prominent Conservative last year the Right Honourable Martial Asselin who passed away, the Prime Minister did not use discretion to grant a funeral in that case.”

Gray will be laid to rest at the Jewish Memorial Gardens, also in Ottawa.
