Naval Officer And Windsor Native Dies

A Windsor native and Canadian Armed Forces member has died in Tanzania.
The Department of National Defence says Leading-Seaman Brandon South, who was serving with the HMCS Regina as a sonar operator, died on Monday in a Tanzania hospital. The cause and circumstances of South’s death are unknown and are being investigated by Canadian Military Police, along with authorities in Dar Es Salaam.
The Department of National Defence says South was en route to Canada for a scheduled leave period from his ship, which is currently sailing in the Indian Ocean.
According to his Facebook page, South grew up in Windsor and attended Riverside Secondary School. South joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2000 and was based out of Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt in British Columbia.
