Former MPP To TestifyApril 24, 2014 4:49am
Former Liberal MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex Maria Van Bommel is being called to testify before the Justice Committee investigating the gas plant scandal.
Van Bommel served as the MPP for the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex riding from 2003 until 2011. She was part of Kathleen Wynne’s Transition Committee when Wynne took over Dalton McGuinty’s position as Premier of Ontario.
Officials with the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario say they are trying to set dates for hearings next week, before the provincial budget is tabled.
Van Bommel lost to Conservative Monte McNaughton in the 2011 election. It is estimated the Liberals’ plan to cancel two gas plants in Mississauga and Oakville could cost taxpayers $1.1-billion. The PC party alleges Kathleen Wynne ordered Liberals to delete government documents detailing the scandal.
