Ekblad Defenceman Of The Year

Belle River native and captain of the Barrie Colts Aaron Ekblad is the OHL’s Defenceman of the Year.

Ekblad tied for fifth in scoring among the league’s defencemen with 53 points in 58 games and lead all defencemen with 23 goals. He is considered a top prospect in the 2014 NHL draft, but says he is trying not to pay attention to the hype.

“It’s one of those things that builds a lot of pressure within you during the year, but now that the year’s over it’s pretty easy to relax and not think about it too much,” notes Ekblad. “I don’t put too much stock into what people are saying and the rumours about it, I’m just going to work as hard as I possibly can and put myself in the best position.
