St. Clair Street Construction Begins
St. Clair St. in Chatham will be reduced to two lanes for eight weeks as spring construction begins.
It is anticipated the lane restrictions, between Thames St. and McNaughton Ave., will be in effect until mid-June. Officials say the plan is to dig up a rail line that runs under the centre lanes of the roadway.
The project was halted last November as the cold weather and snow arrived. In the fall crews completed work on the drainage system, storm sewers and sidewalks. Construction was to begin last summer but was pushed back until the fall as the municipality waited on funding from the provincial government.
St. Clair St. is the second busiest road in Chatham-Kent.
