Local Runner Returns To Boston

A local woman is running her third Boston Marathon today, all while reflecting on the horror that was last year after two bombs went off at the finish line.

Three people died and hundreds were injured in the attack, but owner of Up and Running, Kim Wood says she is looking forward to returning to a city with so much spirit despite the chaos that was last year’s race.

“It was about 30 minutes (after we finished). My hotel was on the other side of the block from the finish line. I had just made it up to the room when I heard it. I initially thought it was a cannon, the race starts with a cannon so it didn’t make sense as to why there was a cannon at that point, and then I heard the second one,” says Wood. “We could see people running away and then you couldn’t even imagine the sounds of the sirens, it was every siren in the city coming in.”

Wood says as a runner, she has to be there this year. There are seven Chatham-Kent residents running in this year’s race.
