Police Seize 368 Firearms In 2013
Firearm seizures by Chatham-Kent police were way up in 2013 compared to 2012.
“Overall we’ve had an increase of about 40% from 2012,” says Deputy Chief Gary Conn. “So in comparison to 265 firearms that were seized last year, we had a total of 368 in 2013.”
Conn wants residents to know that Chatham-Kent is a safe community and the increase doesn’t mean the municipality has a gun problem, adding a lot of the weapons are turned over by people who let their licenses expire.
Restricted firearm seizures were up 170% year-over-year, but at a total of 19, still make up a small fraction.
