Changes For Former Partsmaker
An industrial property in Chatham could soon have some new uses as the owner is asking Chatham-Kent Council to permit a marijuana facility in one part and a retail outlet in another.
The former spring factory at 566 Riverview Dr. hasn’t been a partsmaker for years, but the owner, a numbered Nova Scotia company is looking for tenants.
It is asking council to amend regulations on industrial zoning to allow the production of medical marijuana. It would still have to be licensed by the federal government.
Habitat for Humanity wants to use another portion of the building as a ReStore and while regulations allow the storage and refurbishing of construction materials and fixtures, selling them means retail will have to be added to the list of approved uses.
