The Lambton-Kent District School Board is seeking $2.25-million from the Ministry of Education for upgrades at Wallaceburg District Secondary School.

Come fall, Grade 7 and 8 students from across Wallaceburg will be attending a school within a school at WDSS.

“We should be hearing within a week as to whether or not that has been approved and if it’s approved we’ll be able to provide more detail about the kind of renovation we can make,” says Director of Education Jim Costello. “If we can land it then we will be able to do a number of touch ups inside as well as to the exterior of the school.”

D. A. Gordon Public School in Wallaceburg is closing this June due to declining enrollment and excessive maintenance costs. Students in Kindergarten through Grade 6 are being sent to either H. W. Burgess or A. A. Wright. WDSS was built in 1962.
