Winter Jeopardizes Fruit CropApril 2, 2014 4:43am
It looks like area peaches, apricots and nectarines may have fallen victim to the harsh winter.
Hector Delange, owner of Delhaven Orchards in Cedar Springs, says he can’t say for sure how much damage the harsh winter has caused, but says it’s clear some trees fared better than others.
“It doesn’t look like there are many live buds out there, but until mother nature comes along and gives us some heat and sunshine, we’ll see if there is,” says Delange. “The rest of the fruits, apples, pears, plums, I don’t think there will be much damage in those crops.”
Delange says he won’t know for sure until the buds come out in May.
