OHL Team Still Looking At Chatham-Kent

The issue of an OHL team potentially coming to Chatham-Kent has resurfaced.

A potential property acquisition for an OHL-sized arena was discussed by council March 17th and was listed on the closed session agenda Monday night.

Chatham-Kent CAO Don Shropshire can’t offer much in the way of details. “The only thing that council was informed of is that there are still some people kicking the tires,” says Shropshire. “They were interested in our community and they still think this is a great hockey town. Since amalgamation the municipality has been approached on three separate instances regarding an OHL franchise.

The cost of a new arena has been estimated at up to $50-million with an operating deficit of about $600,000.
