Rail Deal Getting Closer

A deal for the municipally-owned rail line between Wallaceburg and Dresden is closer than ever.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope says a lot of work has gone into getting to this point. “We’re in the due diligence stage,” reveals Hope. ” A lot of stuff needs to be completed, we are very hopeful. But I’ve seen where we’ve gotten to the 11th hour and deals never came together. We’re cautionary, but very confident.”

A group reportedly looking to buy the old CSX line began repairs on the track in the fall. At the time, economic development officials had hoped to make an announcement by the end of this month.
