The Essex 73’s are Junior C champions for a third time in a row.

Corey Beaulieu scored the tying goal and the go-ahead goal, which proved to be the game winner, in a 4-1 victory over the Belle River Canadiens in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League Finals.

Belle River’s Kyle Gagnon opened the scoring in the first period with Beaulieu evening up the game in the second period on the powerplay from Daniel Slipchuk. The 73’s star forward then scored again with helpers from Colin DeLaet and Slipchuck adding his second assist of the game. Dylan Solecki scored for Essex to cap a three goal second period before Beaulieu completed his hat trick in the third period with a shorthanded marker.

Essex won the series in six games and will now take on Dorchester in the Schmaltz Cup quarterfinals.
