Meaford Candidates Debate The Issues

How to keep tax increases down, while encouraging new businesses, was the main subject at the second all-candidates meeting sponsored by Meaford Chamber of Commerce and the Meaford Area Association.

This time, however, candidates in the spotlight were 13 contenders for the five seats on Meaford council.

After the last candidate had spoken, moderator Robert Mackey asked them a series of 13 prepared questions.

The questions dealt with a range of council-related topics, including development charges, attracting new business, and encouraging teamwork. Candidates were also asked to suggest ways to save taxpayer money as well as what skills they would bring to council.

About 250 ratepayers attended last night’s all-candidates meeting at Meaford-St. Vincent Community Centre.
