GFO: Sourcing Local Ingredients

Grain Farmers of Ontario Market Development staff attended a Food Innovation Symposium focused on sourcing local ingredients.

The event was held at the University of Guelph, and it was hosted by Gordon Food Services, a major food distributer. Grain Farmers of Ontario partnered with five other producer groups and Gordon Food Services to help promote Ontario ingredients and products.

The partnership has led to restaurants across Ontario showcasing menus and individual dishes that were crafted from locally sourced ingredients. Chefs and restaurants understand the added value of creating dishes that feature nutritious Ontario grains. Speakers at the symposium highlighted the business case for promoting and purchasing locally produced ingredients, and what influences demand.

The market development department works to attract investment to Ontario by building long term consumer awareness of product innovation, identifying potential industry partners and developing and maintaining export market relationships across the province.
