GFO: New Wheat Prof Will Advance Ontario Industry

The new Grain Farmers of Ontario Professorship in Wheat Breeding in the Department of Plant Agriculture will be filled by Dr. Ali Navabi.

The position is supported by a $1-million investment involving Grain Farmers of Ontario, SeCan, and the Ontario Agricultural College.

Dr. Navabi will focus his research on advancing plant breeding methodology, and creating novel wheat varieties with enhanced productivity, disease resistance, pest resistance, and utility in crop rotation systems in Ontario.

Dr. Navabi brings a great deal of experience in plant breeding and genetics to the position, including 15 years of wheat breeding.

In addition to research, he will also be teaching and advising graduate students. He will begin in the new position on May 1, 2014.
