Owen Sound market open Saturday

The Owen Sound Farmers’ Market will reopen to the public this Saturday.

The market has been closed since mid-March.

Co-manager Richard Thomas said the reopened market will be a very different experience due to COVID-19 restrictions. He added that with everyone’s safety in mind, they’ve worked closely with health officials.

“And they came down and walked through the entire set up and made suggestions and offered comments all of which have been adopted by us and they gave us the go-ahead to open up,” said Thomas.

Among the restrictions, only nine people at a time will be allowed into the market pavilion and people will be asked not to linger but to make their purchases and leave. Others will be waiting in line to get in.

Thomas said farmers are happy with the reopening.

“There’s a lot of farmers who count on us for their livelihood. They’ll all be very grateful to be back here at the market and seeing their customers face to face again even if it is a much shorter interaction,” added Thomas.

Masks are optional but encouraged. Vendors will be fully equipped with personal protective equipment.

The market has had online shopping since early May and that will continue.

The reopened Owen Sound Farmers’ Markets hours starting this Saturday are 9 a.m. to noon.
