Hensall expands operations in southwestern OntarioJune 3, 2019 5:00am
Hensall District Co-operative, Inc. continues to grow, as it has acquired the assets at two crop input retail locations located in Harrow and Tilbury from La Coop fédérée.
The sites, which had been previously owned by Cargill, supply fertilizer, seed, crop protection and the associated value-added custom services to producers in the Essex and Chatham-Kent region.
With liquid and dry fertilizer storage in excess of 5,000 MT, warehousing capacity in excess of 9,000 square feet and room to store 6,000 units of bulk seed, the facilities allow Hensall Co-op to provide agronomic solutions to the farmers in the region.
In addition to the facilities, the transaction includes the associated equipment and product inventories.
“We are pleased to add these well-positioned facilities to our portfolio. Everyone at Hensall Co-op is looking forward to working with the committed employees at the locations and suppliers in the area to help producers achieve their farm goals” said Brad Chandler, CEO of Hensall Co-op. “Adding a new geography to the Hensall Co-op trading area is exciting and is in line with our strategy to earn local producers’ business as a market leader in providing full-service value-added solutions while giving them the opportunity to become owner-members. Over time, we can expect this region will provide us with the opportunity to continue to expand the acreage for edible beans and IP soybeans in Ontario as we work to meet the needs of the growing global plant-based protein market”.
Hensall Co-op will begin operating the facilities immediately and looks forward to introducing itself and its offerings to producers in the area.
Open houses will be scheduled for the summer.
The facilities will be referred to as ‘Hensall Co-op Tilbury’ and ‘Hensall Co-op Harrow’.
The terms of the agreement including financial terms will not be disclosed.
Founded in 1937, Hensall Co-op is the 8th largest non-financial co-operative in Canada with over 6,000 member-owners and 32 owned locations in Ontario and Manitoba.
