U of G Likes Federal Focus On Agri-Food Sector

The University of Guelph is pleased with the federal budget’s emphasis on agriculture and the agri-food sector.

Canada’s “food university” notes last week’s budget announcement includes a $70 million commitment to further support agricultural discovery, science and innovation.

University president Franco Vaccarino says he’s delighted by the government’s recognition of the role the agri-food sector can play in building Canada’s prosperity.

He adds the industry is a major engine in the economic growth of Canada, and that the university, with more than 150 years in agri-food development, is a natural fit for this new initiative.

U of G also points out some of the funding will go to the development and adoption of clean technology for agricultural production.
