Canadian, Ontario Organic Groups Support GE Food Labelling

The Organic Council of Ontario has come out in support of a proposed federal bill calling for the mandatory labelling of genetically engineered foods.

The bill was put forward by Quebec New Democrat MP Pierre-Luc Duseault.

He argues Canadians need full information to exercise their right to choose what they put on their plates.

Council Chair Tom Manley suggests if genetic engineering is such a good idea, supporters should be pleased to put it on the food label.

Canada Organic Trade Association spokesperson Tia Loftsgard says they’re working with the MP to ensure the proper wording is used in the bill to reflect the need for mandatory labelling of genetically engineered ingredients.
