GFO Has Criteria Suggestions For New Federal Ag Minister
Grain Farmers of Ontario is looking to the new federal government for action on a couple of what it considers to be critical issues for the province’s grain farmers.
Those issues include adequate funding for safety net programs and public plant research.
Chair Mark Brock says safety net programs and public research have suffered major cutbacks over the last several years.
GFO argues the existing safety net programs need a significant re-design to make the relevant to all sectors of agriculture and effective for Ontario grain farmers.
Brock says they’ve also got a couple of key criteria for a new federal agriculture minister.
They want that minister to be someone who works for agriculture in all regions of Canada and who has a strong, current knowledge of the challenges facing the sector.
