Bruce Federation Recognized For Initiative and Imagination

The 2015 CKNX Radio Farm Advisory Board FAB Award has been presented to the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture.

The award was established 27 years ago to recognize a body of work by a Midwestern Ontario group or individual to the benefit of agriculture and the rural community.

The nominator suggested the Bruce Federation has gone beyond the basic work of a county organisation with a number of special projects.

Those included work on the Mildmay area nitrate issue under Source Water protection, helping create an alternative when the OSPCA decided to pull out of Bruce and Grey and initiating the Reel Farm Video Challenge.

That Challenge concept was born in Bruce and went on to become a province-wide initiative of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture.

The FAB Award and the FAB Bursary are both administered by the CKNX Radio Farm Advisory Board – a group established to provide grass-roots input on agriculture and rural issues to CKNX radio.

Jilesen says the board’s pride and energy is reflected din the decisions they make and the advocacy they do for agriculture.

Jilesen says the work they do is a reflection of how proud board members are as farmers.
