Bruce, Chatham-Kent Local Food Project Funding

Five projects to bring more local food to Ontarians are getting government funding.

Sustain Ontario’s ‘From the Ground Up – Supporting Municipalities to Buy Local’ project is getting 50 thousand dollars.

Bruce County and Chatham-Kent are among the municipalities involved.

The money will be used to refine and implement local food procurement plans in a variety of institutions, including long-term care homes, daycares, muncipal offices and a convention centre.

Ontario Goat Breeders Association is getting 25 thousand dollars for a project to quantify the market opportunities for goat milk in the broader public sector.

The other groups sharing in the funding are Eat Local Sudbury, Halton Fresh Food Box and Food and Beverage Ontario.

The money comes from the Greenbelt Fund, which – in turn – gets it’s money from the Ontario government.
