Home Ec Group Pushing Province For Food Education Requirement

The Ontario Home Economics Association wants at least one food and nutrition course a requirement for students to complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

The Association has started a petition to make that happen.

The OHEA says one in 3 Canadian children and youth are overweight or obese – arguing that’s three times the level of 30 years ago.

Last year, the Ontario Ministry of Education released 20 new and revised Family Studies courses.

Several are related to food and nutrition.

The Association’s petition calls for those courses to be prioritized to help make healthy eating and food literacy a focus for all Ontario students.

The petition is online on the website – www.care2.com.
