A Chance To Comment On Proposed Food Safety ChangesJune 26, 2014 8:36am
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is looking for feedback on it’s new way to approach food safety.
The agency has posted some of the documentation on it’s website, including it’s paper on enhancing risk analysis.
That paper talks about moving to an outcome-based system more focussed on prevention while also leveraging inspection resources for maximum value.
That includes moving away from it’s current system of using different approaches to oversight for each commodity.
That would be replaced by a single, risk-based approach applied consistently across all commodities.
The CFIA is proposing providing a base-level of oversight for all regulated parties, then layering on top of that depending on the risks that need to be managed.
The agency is accepting comments on the proposal until October 31st of this year.
Here’s a link to the submissions page – including a link to the analysis document.
