Food Banks Group Thanks Ontario Farm Groups

The Ontario Association of Food Banks is thanking provincial farm groups for their help feeding the needy.

Association Executive Director Bill Laidlaw says groups like Ontario Dairy Farmers and Processors, Egg Farmers and Graders as well as pork, beef, chicken and turkey farmers have all made significant commitments to his organisation this year.

He says those commitments will see thousands of pounds of local food contributed to area foodbanks.

Those contributions include the Ontario Dairy Council and Dairy Farmers of Ontario’s almost 1 million litres of milk annually.

Ontario Pork is expanding it’s program to provide 80 thousand dollars worth of fresh product to food banks.

And Beef Farmers of Ontario is launching a pilot program to provide food banks across the province with access to fresh, ground beef.

This is Hunger Awareness Week in Canada.

Ontario food banks serve over 375 thousand Ontario residents – including 131 thousand children – every month.
